Hey y’all, I can’t believe it! It’s the middle of May, and school is letting out in so many area schools. I love summer. I think it’s actually the best season as it features some of my favorite days and activities: my birthday, July fourth, warm weather and sunshine, days at the pool, cool lemonade, twirly sundresses, corn on the cob & fatting fair foods, concerts & drive-in movies, and lots of adventures. I’ve had several people reach out to me about family and senior sessions. They can’t decide if they’d rather wait until October for fall pictures or go ahead and plan a summer session. I love summertime so to me, it only makes sense to get pictures in my favorite season. However, I know that some of you are not so easily convinced. But, I will assure you there are SEVERAL reasons why you should book early!

1. Planning

The thing about getting pictures during any other time of the year is that kids have school and you are never truly able to plan for anything. If you’re looking to schedule a senior session, you genuinely have no clue what your student will have going on in September & October. This makes it nearly impossible for you to plan and schedule ahead. The great thing about summer is that most schedules are either more free or practices happen on a normal consistent basis {unlike that random group project that your student all-of-the-sudden has to meet for}.

2. Avoid the Holiday Hustle

Whether you’re planning to book a senior or family session, the holidays are crazy. Don’t get me wrong, they are sooo much fun, but they also can add a little bit of stress {or a lot}. Booking a session early can be just one more thing to check off your list before the chaos sets in. Just think about it… what if you had your family Christmas card picture done before August {crazy, I know}.

3. Get Your Tan On

Now, I am in no way promoting tanning, as I know that it’s not exactly the best thing for your skin. However, most people will become at least a little bit tanner during the summer months from being outdoors. You don’t have to be tan to look great in pictures, but it is a nice perk!

4. GREENERY!

I love the colors of fall, but the truth is, you can’t plan for it to be colorful. Some years, the trees are vibrant. Other years, there are barely any color and storms knock down most of the fall foliage. One great thing about the summer, you know it’s going to be green! It’s a nice safety net to know that the greenery is going to be there rather than hoping and praying the fall will be colorful.

5. It’s all in the Timing

Like I mentioned previously, it’s great to have your family portraits taken early to avoid the hustle and bustle of the holidays. However, maybe you’re looking to get senior pictures taken, and you think that the “early bird” theory doesn’t apply to you. One reason why I chose to get my senior pictures done in the summer was because I was able to have my pictures throughout my entire senior year. That’s right. I loved being able to change my profile picture, print out several copies, and use my new images for different yearbook submissions.

BONUS:

One special summertime bonus are summer adventures. If you’re looking for a unique, different session, summer is the perfect time to schedule it! This summer I will already be traveling to Branson, MO & Washington, DC. Will you be in the area? Let me know I’d love to have a destination shoot with you! {Visit my contact page to get in touch with me!}
