I Graduated!

So, I wasn’t going to blog this, but I often use this blog as a way to document the big parts of life. I know a few years from now I will be so glad I shared these pictures. I’ve also received a lot of questions lately about what degree I earned. So, I’m going to be answering a few questions and sharing about my collegiate experience.

  1. Where did you go to school?

HA! So, this is an interesting answer. I was technically enrolled at 4 colleges/universities and took classes at 3. Yikes. My college career hasn’t been the easiest or the smoothest sailing. Before the start of my senior year, I was admitted and enrolled at Southern Illinois University – Carbondale. I planned to major in cinema. I wanted to be a Hollywood director {and yes, this is still a dream of mine – like seriously wouldn’t it be so cool!!!}. Over half way into my senior year, I became really nervous with the idea of moving 3.5 hours away and worried about the extremely low success rate in film industry. Plus, I met a really cute guy ;), and he was attending a university in St. Louis. So, I decided to change my major to marketing and attend Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville. SIUE was only an hour and half from my home, and only 45 minutes from Hayden. Financially it had very low tuition rates, and the student population was near 15,000 {I really wanted to go to a bigger school}. After attending SIUE for 3 months, I quickly realized that it was not where I needed to be. There were many reasons that played into my decision of switching school. A few of the biggest, I didn’t feel safe, and I felt extremely lonely. So, I made the switch to Maryville University. The biggest selling point – Hayden! I never thought I would attend a smaller university, but after such a rough and depressing few months at SIUE, the quieter, safer, and more homier Maryville was a total win. School number four is Lakeland College where I took a few summer classes so I could graduate a semester early!

  2. Biggest Piece of Advice When Selecting a School

If you read the answer to number one, you’ll understand my answer to this… it’s okay to change your mind! I changed my mind so many times. I didn’t plan to switch school, but it happened, and I’m so glad that I did! If you get to a school, and you’re embarrassed to admit that it’s not what you expected, don’t be afraid to think of a different option. I was so afraid to admit that SIUE was not where I needed to be, but for my health and happiest, it was the best decision for me to move along.

  3. What did you major in?

    I majored in marketing!

  4. Did you study photography in college?

I’ve taken a few photography classes, but I’m self trained.

  5. What if you don’t know what you want to do for a career?

Y’all, it is totally fine if you don’t know what you’re going to do. Don’t feel like you’re alone. Single out things you enjoy and figure out if there is any way you can incorporate that into a career. Starting to get stressed? Pray about it – put it in God’s hands, and I promise you will be so thankful!
