my blog!

welcome to

A new year often means new goals and new endeavors. Two years ago, this February, I officially launched my business as Haley Nicole, LLC. Before then, I conducted much smaller (& less intentional) business endeavors. The start of 2017 was just the kick I needed to jump into creating a legal business.

Just like many of you, my business is not the only job I have. While I spend many hours a week on it – I still have obligations to my full-time job, family, church, friends, and other organizations.

What I’ve learned over the past two years is that managing a side hustle is entirely a balancing act. With that said, here are a few tips for those of you starting to navigate the water of “How do I do it all?”

1. You can’t do it all

Sorry to burst your bubble so quickly, but ya can’t. It’s just not possible for you, by yourself, to do everything and do it well. Once I acknowledged this it took a lot of unnecessary pressure off me.

2. Prioritize like no tomorrow

Since you’re admitting to not being invincible, you will need to prioritize often – like everyday. Find out what needs to be done and don’t sweat the rest.

3. Create a schedule

This is SO important. If you don’t use a calendar or some type of planner, I highly suggest starting. You’ll need to stay organized. I’ve learned that it’s important to schedule days off {or else they won’t happen!}

4. The comparison bug is REAL

Starting out, it is so easy to look around at what everyone else is doing and feel pathetic about your own work. You’ll need to constantly remind yourself that you are just starting out and things take time! Everyone’s path is not the same. What worked for someone might not work for you.

5. Don’t copy

When you’re unsure of what to do or who your company is, it can seem like second nature to copy your competitors or those you look up to. DO NOT DO THIS. I know it’s hard to figure things out, but step into their shoes and think what it would feel like for someone to copy something you’ve worked so hard on. Some things are inevitable- like yes, most businesses get a website. However, you shouldn’t mimic their bio page to a T – that’s called plagiarism. Find your own voice and brand and run with that.

*SIDE NOTE* – Starting any business or side hustle takes a LOT of work. Nothing good happens overnight. Keep pushing, keep pursuing, and keep working hard.

I’m cheering for you!!
