Alright y’all, I know you’re probably thinking “another coronavirus blog post,” but I’m really truly excited to bring this to you. I’ve seen so many photographers stressed during this chaotic time…and I get it! There’s a lot going on, a lot of unknowns, and maybe you’ve had to cancel a lot of business. Instead of focusing on all of that, let’s focus on what we can and SHOULD be doing during this time. If you’re like many photographers, you might suddenly have a lot of time on your hands, and you’re really not sure what you should be doing with all of it! Let’s tackle this together!

  1. Keep communicating!!

After you’ve chatted with your clients who need to move around dates, be sure to keep communicating with them! You don’t (and likely shouldn’t) keep talking about crisis related things with them, but continue to be a friend and communicate with them through your social media and private Facebook groups. For me, I’m choosing to spend more time in the next few weeks (when I’m not going anywhere) to chat with my online social media channels. I’m not talking about the virus, but just sharing more – since I have more time! Our daily life looks pretty simple right now – but that’s okay!! – I’m sharing it anyways, and I’m hoping to connect with those around me more! It’s also totally fine to keep sharing your services. Understand that many people at this time, can’t afford to commit to any extra financially. However, when this does pass (& it will!) they’ll likely be in the market for a photographer again.

  2. Start a New Project/Revamp an Old One

I had already started a pretty big design project before the virus halted all plans, but now that I have more time at home on my hands, I’ve really been able to dig in (& I’m almost finished!). I’m sure there’s some type of project you’ve always dreamed of doing or creating, but likely never had the time. Maybe your website needs cleaned up or new copy written – give it a go! This is a great time to run through your client’s experience and reevaluate what you’re doing.

  3. Keep Photographing

Now, I know this one might be a little harder because maybe you don’t live with someone or maybe you don’t have the most “ideal” set-up. Don’t let those be reasons to stop you from practicing. Now is the perfect time to test new tactics you’ve read about, but really never had time to work on. If you do live with someone ask them to try out some new poses for clients. If you’ve had lighting equipment, but never had a chance to perfect indoor lighting – give it a go! Use this time to sharpen your skills.

I’m really excited to see and hear how you’ll use this time to help your business. I am not making light of the crisis – it’s very real and very devastating to some, but I want to encourage you to use this time to the best of your ability. I have faith you can create some of your very best work during this time!!
