Share Your Faith x Hannah Fatheree

Hey y’all! I’m Hannah Fatheree, Haley’s sister (in law). I married Haley’s brother, Taylor, almost two years ago and we live in Knoxville, TN just outside of the Smoky Mountains! We have a big sense of adventure and love a good hike, but I also appreciate coffee shops or stopping by the mall for a new outfit. I work full time as an event planner where I get to plan and execute events in the area along with helping other organizations plan their events! I’m an enneagram 2 who appreciates organization, but thrives in quality time, helping people, and loving on others in any way possible. In my spare time, I enjoy running and training for marathons, leading my high school girls, writing, and running my business, Captivating Community.

Life these days is well, busy. Between balancing work, time with friends, time with Taylor, my business and free time, I can often forget what we’re called to do as believers: make His name known and make disciples of all nations. I try to be very intentional with my words and actions, as I believe Jesus should be seen in all that I say and do. My hope is that people will look at me and think, “This girl is different. She radiates joy no matter what her circumstances are. How do I get that?”

Whether on social media, in my office, or in small groups, I try to be open about my current walk, what I’m struggling with and what’s working well for me. Probably the biggest, and my favorite way to share my faith is through quality time. If you know anything about the enneagram, knowing that I’m a 2 will probably explain a lot! At the core, my biggest desire is to love on and encourage others. Seriously, my favorite pastime is to sit in coffee shops talking about life with people. Most of the time, I share my faith one on one because it creates a safe space for honesty and vulnerability, but it also strengthens connections.

Publicly, I enjoy sharing my faith via Instagram, Facebook or on my blog. This usually looks like sharing things that I’m currently learning, what God is teaching me and how He’s growing me. Writing has always been a passion of mine, and my goal is to use written words to encourage others in their walk with Christ. While I’m not Bob Goff or Jennie Allen, my motto with writing is if Jesus can use my words to impact just one life, then it was worth it.

I firmly believe there is power in vulnerability and I try to represent that wherever I share my faith – especially online. I think it’s so easy to create a facade online, making it difficult to be approachable or relatable. There is definitely a necessary balance in being vulnerable online and setting boundaries for your own mental, emotional and spiritual health. While I’m generally an open book, there are more personal things that I keep within my tight knit community – and that’s okay! In fact, I think it’s a good thing.

Sometimes though, sharing my faith is difficult. Mentally, I may feel like I need a break and spiritually I may not even be in a good place to where I feel qualified to share my faith. One thing I always come back to is my desire for God to use me in big ways for His kingdom. I’m reminded that God doesn’t need us, but He wants to use us – and if He doesn’t use me, He’ll use someone else. Sometimes this is a harsh reality to come to but it motivates me to persevere through those moments.

If this is you, you might be wondering how to get past these moments or seasons where you don’t feel motivated to share your faith. I definitely don’t have it all figured out, but here are some things I encourage:

  1. Always be yourself! People gravitate towards authenticity. If you haven’t noticed by now, I’m a big proponent of vulnerability. It’s scary at times, but the connections you make with people by being your authentic self makes it all worth it.
  2. Share your story. Taking #1 a step further, sharing your testimony is a great personal way to make deeper connections. Odds are, someone listening has been through something similar and will be encouraged by your story! And remember, every story is important and unique. God has given you a beautiful story that can be used to encourage others!
  3. Remember that you don’t have to have it all together or have all the answers. God frequently reminds me that I don’t have to be perfect to share His name. The best thing I can do is be honest with where I’m at and sometimes it’s as simple as “I’m really going through a rough time, struggling to see how God’s hand is in this is, but He’s never failed me and won’t start now.”
  4. Use your skills and passions to share your faith. As I’ve shared earlier, my biggest passions are event planning, quality time, and writing. I share my faith most often via these outlets because it’s what I’m passionate about and how God has gifted me. If you’re passionate about music, share your faith through worship music. If you’re interested in the medical field, volunteer at a local hospital, senior home or something similar. Passionate about exercise and nutrition? Gather a group of friends and do a fun workout or make a healthy meal. All of these passions can create authentic settings and spaces to have conversations regarding your faith. Remember that God has gifted us all uniquely and will use those gifts for His namesake.

Friend, I hope you feel encouraged to share your faith today. My prayer is that God lays on your heart a new way to share your faith this week, someone to share your faith with, and the courage to step into that calling.

I’d love to connect with you and continue the conversation! I’m a big fan of fostering a community which encourages one another (hence my business name). You can follow along my journey @captivatingcommunity on Instagram or send me a message at https://www.hannahmfatheree.com/connect. I’m also SUPER excited to share that Captivating Community the Bible study will launch July 7th! If you’ve ever struggled with community, finding your people, or knowing who you are – you won’t want to miss out on this study. The best way to learn more about the study, watch previews and learn how to participate is by following along on Instagram.
